Elon Musk Slams OpenAI's $500 Billion AI Dream: 'They Don’t Have the Money

Elon Musk has expressed doubt about OpenAI and SoftBank's ambitious $500 billion AI infrastructure project, referred to as 'The Stargate Project.' He suggested that the companies involved may not have the financial resources required to bring the project to fruition. Musk specifically highlighted that SoftBank has raised less than $10 billion, a figure far below the project’s estimated budget.

The Stargate Project is designed to establish cutting-edge AI infrastructure across the United States, with construction already beginning in Texas. The initiative is a collaboration among major tech players, including Oracle, Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and MGX. While SoftBank is set to handle financial management, OpenAI is tasked with operational oversight. The project also aims to strengthen OpenAI's existing collaborations with Microsoft and NVIDIA by leveraging their cloud services and computing technologies to advance Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) research.

Musk’s comments have raised questions about the viability of the project, given the potential financial challenges faced by the involved organizations. His criticism comes amid ongoing disagreements with OpenAI’s leadership, including disputes about its shift to a for-profit structure.
