2025 Oscars Shockers: Emilia Pérez Breaks a Major Record & These Nominations Will Blow Your Mind!

The nominees for the 2025 Academy Awards have been announced, and Emilia Pérez leads with a groundbreaking 13 nominations, setting a new record for non-English-language films. This surpasses the previous record of 10 nominations held by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Roma. Close behind are The Brutalist and Wicked, both securing 10 nominations.

A few standout moments include Karla Sofía Gascón of Emilia Pérez, who made history as the first openly transgender performer nominated for Best Actress. The Brutalist and Wicked also received numerous acting nods, while The Substance saw both Demi Moore and Isabella Rossellini earn their first-ever Oscar nominations.

Another historic moment came from I’m Still Here, where Fernanda Torres followed in her mother Fernanda Montenegro’s footsteps as the second Brazilian actress nominated for Best Actress.

Top Nominations Include:

  • Best Picture: Anora, Emilia Pérez, The Brutalist, Wicked, Dune: Part Two, and more are in the running.
  • Best Director: Jacques Audiard, Brady Corbet, James Mangold, and others are competing for the award.
  • Best Actor & Actress: Notable performances from Timothée Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Cynthia Erivo, and Karla Sofía Gascón.

The nominations announcement, initially set for January 17, was delayed twice due to the wildfires in Los Angeles. During this time, the Academy extended the voting window and committed a significant donation to wildfire relief efforts.

The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will air live on March 2, 2025. The ceremony will celebrate the year's best films while also honoring the resilience of Los Angeles in the face of disaster.
